Mold is a fungus that grows in warm, damp areas inside homes. It produces spores that are released into the air and can cause allergy and asthma symptoms as well as eye, nose, throat, and skin irritation. It is important to know that mold may also produce toxic substances, called mycotoxins, which can make you sick or even be fatal if you are exposed to large quantities over a long period of time.
Some people are particularly sensitive to molds. People with allergies or asthma may have more trouble breathing when they are exposed to mold and molds can trigger asthma attacks, especially in children.
Let Us Get to Work:
Once we have located the mold and determined its cause, we will discuss with you how best to clean up the problem area so that it does not come back. We look for hidden moisture sources such as roof leaks, plumbing leaks, improperly functioning air conditioning and heating systems, or indoor humidifiers to determine the source of the mold growth. We also use equipment specifically designed to find hidden moisture sources in your wall cavities that will not only check for mold spores but can also locate potential areas where water may be trapped causing mold growth.
Uneven surfaces or walls that appear to be bowed may also indicate potential mold problems. Also, if your home has been flooded or is located in high humidity area and you notice condensation forming on windows, a plumbing leak or water seeping under the flooring, call us for an inspection right away.
If we find evidence of active mold growth during your inspection, we will discuss with you how best to correct the problem.
